I don’t know why I’ve been so focused on it but I’m trying to stretch, I get frustrated with my mediocre skill. These are recent explorations into how far I can push it in hopes of making something interesting. Context warning: Nudity.
Not Safe for Work unless you work in a spa
Water, warmth, and the casual intimacy of being in your skin with someone you enjoy talking to. Steam and the smells of shampoos and soaps and creams; it knocks me out. Sure, it’s sexy but to me it’s meta-sexy. It’s also comforting to my soul. And in this Seattle winter, with a cold trying to drag me under, I just needed it.
Just some new experiments playing with the idea of shadow-boxes: Photos as little tableaus of two dimensional cut outs.
I love nudes and I have a weakness for ordinary, daily scenes. My artwork has developed considerably since I made these, but it’s one of my most popular pages, so I’m leaving it as it is for now.
The artist is Sergei Dmitrievich Merkurov. He would go on to become an honored sculptor and state artist. The reason for an erotic alphabet? Supposedly for the elimination of illiteracy among the adult population in the countryside. But probably, because it was fun. Way heavy on the ancient Roman influence: horny satyrs, indecent cupids, and flying disembodied cocks. They don’t tell you this, but for some reason the ancient Romans drew about a million pictures of cocks with wings. The ancient Romans appreciated few of the nuances of modern workplace behavior.
